5 Great Dog Walks – North Norwich

Norwich has many beautiful dog walking spots nestled away in the city. These are our favourites on the northern side of town. For south Norwich dog walks click here

Harrison’s Wood and Cottage Plantation
You’ll feel like you are in the wilds of Canada or Eastern Europe while walking in these two woodland spaces which are joined by a carpark on Blue Boar lane in Sprowston. The woodlands are great for dog walking, especially when its hot and have wide soft pathways. Harrisons wood is on lead to protect wildlife that live there and Cottage Plantation is more open and dogs can play off lead here. Blue Boar Ln, Norwich NR7 8RJ

Pound Lane Woods
Also known as Thorpe Woods, is a few minutes from Norwich City Centre and a beautiful off lead walk for dogs and their owners. Imagine tall pine trees, ferns and rhododendrons creating winding soft pathways. The woodland is deceptively large and will keep you amused for a good hour off lead dog walk. Access from the top of Pound Lane, NR7 0UB

Lion Wood Nature Reserve
A large mature woodland with two steep sides and an open woodland floor and a great space for exploring with your dog or children. It has many pathways making each visit seem new. Dogs can be off lead here but watch out as there are many exits close to city roads. In spring bluebells are in bloom and we have spotted jays and woodpeckers. 4 hour parking spaces are available on Telepgraph Lane, NR1 4AN.

Catton Park
A great park for dogs to have a good run about on the northern side of Norwich, with large open green spaces and woodland areas. Accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Dogs can play off lead in Catton Park but are not allowed in the picnic area. The postcode for the Park is NR6 7DB.

Mousehold Heath
This is the largest local nature reserve in Norwich comprising of heathland and woodland with some open grass playing fields on the outskirts. It is popular with dog walkers and can be busy but there are many pathways to choose from so if your dog is less sociable you can avoid others easily. A large pond in the middle of the heath is great for dogs that like a paddle but it can dry up in summer. There are two car parks on Gurney lane NR1 4HW.
