From the moment we arrive, our focus is simple: calm, safe and enriching care for every dog in our charge. Before the dogs arrive, we prepare the space from 7:45am by completing safety checks in the play and rest areas, setting up water bowls and reviewing each dog’s notes. Understanding personalities, friendships and energy levels helps us plan groups that allow dogs to feel relaxed and confident.
As dogs arrive from 8am, we greet them individually, giving them time to settle rather than rushing them straight into play. Some dogs head off excitedly with their friends, while others prefer a gentle introduction or a quiet sniff around first. Watching body language is one of the most important parts of our role — it helps us understand how each dog is feeling and what they need from their day.
Throughout the morning, dogs spend time in carefully matched social groups guided by a staff member each, enjoying play, exploration and enrichment games. We balance activity with rest because dogs, just like people, need downtime to process their experiences. Calmness is something we actively encourage, and dogs come indoors daily at midday for a rest. Nap time is essential every day and many wonder how we have 40 dogs napping at the same time but with a consistent routine the dogs know what to expect and love curling up on the sofa with a buddy! The afternoon is spent with structured activities, scent work, foraging and often learning new skills.
For our grooming team, the day begins at 9am and centres around comfort and trust. Each groom starts with a warm massaging hydrobath (great for any sore muscles). Our groomers work patiently and gently, adapting their approach to suit nervous dogs, puppies or those who simply need extra reassurance. Our priority is always the dog’s welfare and emotional wellbeing, not rushing the groom.
As the day winds down from 5pm, we help dogs transition into a calm state ready for home. We share photos and updates with every owner about their dog’s day, including friendships, achievements and any grooming advice.
Every day looks slightly different, but our goal remains the same — to create a safe, happy and enriching experience where dogs can thrive.
